We collect within about 30 miles of our yard in Mexborough, South Yorkshire. Close to home — Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley, Sheffield — is usually next working day and often the same day; the outer edge of our area takes a day or two longer. The expected lead time is shown on your quote before you commit.

Yes, everywhere we cover. The price you see is the price you receive; recovery and transport come out of our side. If a particular postcode ever carries a collection charge it is shown clearly on your quote, never sprung on you on the day.

By bank transfer, usually the same day the vehicle is collected and always within one working day. We cannot pay cash — the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 makes cash payment for scrap vehicles illegal in England and Wales. Cheque is available if you prefer.

It makes life easier, but no. Without it there is extra paperwork and a small deduction, and the driver will need to see photo ID plus proof that you live at the address the vehicle is registered to.

That is completely normal for the vehicles we buy. Tell us on the quote form and we send the right equipment. A non-runner is worth a little less than a driver because recovery costs more, but we will still take it.

Yes. An expired MOT or a SORN makes no difference to whether we will buy it — most of the vehicles we collect have neither.

It goes to an Authorised Treatment Facility, where it is depolluted — fuel, oils, coolant, battery and airbags removed and handled properly — before any usable parts are recovered and the shell is crushed and recycled. The ATF issues a Certificate of Destruction, which we send to you.

We notify the DVLA on your behalf as soon as the vehicle reaches the ATF, and you will get confirmation. You can also do it yourself using section 9 (the yellow slip) of the V5C. Until the DVLA is told, you are still the registered keeper and still liable.

Wait until the vehicle has actually been collected, then cancel your insurance and apply for a road tax refund. The DVLA refunds any full remaining months automatically once it has been notified.

Yes, but you must transfer or retain it before the vehicle is collected. Once a car has been destroyed by an ATF the registration cannot be recovered. You can apply to keep a registration on GOV.UK.

Yes, provided the vehicle matches what you told us. If the driver arrives and finds something significantly different — the engine gone, the catalytic converter cut out, fire damage you did not mention — they will explain the revised figure before loading anything, and you are free to decline.

Yes, but we can only pay the registered keeper, and whoever is present needs to be able to hand over the keys and any paperwork. Let us know in advance if the arrangement is unusual and we will sort it out.
