Who is the data controller
Motorspot Ltd is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at info@motorspot.co.uk.
What we collect
- Vehicle details: the registration you enter, and the vehicle record returned against it (make, model, year, fuel, weight, MOT and tax status).
- Quote details: the postcode you give, your answers about the vehicle's condition, and the price we offered.
- Contact and collection details: when you book a collection — your name, email address, phone number and the collection address.
- Identification: our collection agent checks photo ID and proof of address at the point of collection, as the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 requires. Records of that check are held by the collecting operator.
- Technical data: IP address, browser user agent and referring page, used for fraud prevention and to understand where enquiries come from.
We do not ask for or store bank account details through this website. Payment details are taken separately at the point of collection.
Why we use it
- To produce your quote and manage a collection (performance of a contract).
- To notify the DVLA and issue destruction paperwork (legal obligation).
- To verify identity as required by scrap metal legislation (legal obligation).
- To prevent fraud and protect the service (legitimate interests).
- To send marketing emails, only where you have opted in (consent).
Who we share it with
We share the details necessary to complete a collection with the licensed collection agent or Authorised Treatment Facility carrying it out, and with the DVLA. We use third-party providers for vehicle data lookup and for hosting. We do not sell your personal data.
How long we keep it
Quotes that do not lead to a collection are kept for 24 months. Records relating to a completed collection are kept for at least six years, because scrap metal and tax legislation requires it.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to processing, or withdraw consent to marketing at any time. Email info@motorspot.co.uk and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
