Scrap car collection
Scrap my car
Enter your registration and postcode, get a guaranteed price in about thirty seconds, and we collect the car from your door — free of charge across Sheffield, Wakefield, Leeds, Doncaster, Huddersfield and Nottingham, from our yard in Mexborough — and pay you by bank transfer on the day. As an Authorised Treatment Facility we scrap the car ourselves, so the Certificate of Destruction comes from us, not from a third party.
- A real price, not an estimate
- Our quote is based on your car’s actual kerb weight and today’s scrap metal rate, and it is the figure that lands in your bank.
- Free collection, usually next day
- Our own recovery truck comes to you. No MOT, tax or working engine needed.
- Paid on the day
- Bank transfer to the registered keeper as the car is loaded. No cash — that has been illegal since 2013 — and no deductions.
- Paperwork done for you
- We issue the Certificate of Destruction and tell the DVLA you are no longer the keeper.
How scrapping your car with us works
You type in the registration and postcode. We look the car up — make, model, fuel, kerb weight — and price it on the spot against today’s scrap rate. Answer a few questions about condition (does it start, is anything missing, do you have the V5C) and the price adjusts in front of you. If you are happy, pick a collection day and a morning or afternoon slot.
On the day our driver arrives with a recovery truck, checks your ID and the car, and sends payment by bank transfer before loading it. The car goes back to our yard in Mexborough, where it is depolluted and dismantled, and we issue your Certificate of Destruction and notify the DVLA.
What we take
Anything on four wheels that has reached the end of the road: MOT failures, non-runners, accident damaged and insurance write-offs, flood damaged cars, high-mileage diesels nobody wants, cars with engine or gearbox failure, and vehicles that have simply sat on a drive for years. Vans, pickups and 4x4s too. Condition changes the price, never whether we will take it.
Why use a local ATF rather than a national comparison site?
The big scrap-car websites are middlemen: they take your details, auction the job to a yard near you and keep a cut. We are the yard. Because there is nobody in between, the price you see is what we can actually pay, the person who quotes you is the firm that turns up, and if anything about the car is not as described the driver can sort it there and then rather than phoning a call centre.
We are licensed by the Environment Agency as an Authorised Treatment Facility and registered as a scrap metal dealer, which is why we can issue the Certificate of Destruction directly. Read what happens to your car after collection.
Before we arrive
- Empty the car — glovebox, boot, door pockets, under the seats.
- Have your photo ID and something showing your address ready; the driver has to see them.
- Find the V5C if you have it. If not, you can still scrap the car.
- Leave the tax and insurance running until the car has actually gone.
Common questions
How much will I get for my scrap car?
Most cars fetch somewhere between £150 and £400; bigger and heavier vehicles more, small city cars less. The figure depends mainly on weight and the current scrap metal price, then on whether the car is complete and whether it drives. Enter your registration for an exact price — it takes thirty seconds and there is no obligation.
Do I need to be there when you collect?
Yes, or someone acting for you with the keys and your ID. The driver checks photo ID and proof of address (the law requires it), confirms the bank details, and loads the car. It takes about fifteen minutes.
What if the car is not at my home address?
That is fine — tell us where it is when you book. We collect from driveways, streets, garages, workplaces and car parks. If it is somewhere awkward, add a note and we will bring the right truck.
Can I keep my private plate?
Yes, but you must apply to the DVLA to take it off the car before we collect (form V317 or online). Once a car has a Certificate of Destruction the registration is gone for good.
Will I get a tax refund?
Yes. When the DVLA is told the car has been scrapped they refund any full months of vehicle tax left automatically. Cancel your insurance yourself once the car has gone.
